In general, you'll be in combat a fair amount of time assuming you aren't a civilian. The world is fraught with dangers and your sword could be in your hand more often than a hot cup of tea.
Unlike the MMORPG, you're very unlikely to find anything past a deer that you can 1shot. Bears will maul you if you're unaware and unarmoured, unless you are in peak physical condition and get a few good punches in. Other humans may be slightly less well trained than you are, but that doesn't stop them from having the ability to cut you, and dragons will likely devour you unless you have your wits about you. For these reasons, you should treat all enemies as though they are a similar standard to you, if not higher.
When fighting against NPC characters, you can pretty much describe a fight in whichever way suits you, unless the character is pretty strong, and there are several of you around it, in which case it may take several of you to kill it, and hence several of you to RP it. Although you can RP the actions of any NPC character, you can NOT take over the actions of any other player's character. This power playing is not permitted in our rules. Examples include you telling a friend to pass you their sword, and you receiving the sword in the same post without consulting the person, or telling another adventurer that they should get a ship to Darnassus and continuing the post with them leaving on the boat. Characters can not be roleplayed by anyone except their owner.
This applies further into the duelling system, which does not allow you to attack other characters directly, as well as not powerplay them. In this system, you cannot state that you 'hit him across the head with the butt of the sword'. You are powerplaying their character getting hit. Instead, there should be a sentence similar to 'He drove the hilt of the sword downwards, aiming for the Tauren't face.' or something along those lines. It allows the other person to play their character and decide whether they'll take the hit for a good bit of RP, or avoid it and somehow counter you.
These rules will apply to everyone and will benefit people if they use them. Hopefully it will give people a more pleasant roleplaying experience.
