She disappeared from his touch, and he sighed as she slipped away from him, his hands falling away from her touch and pressed into the wall, the wood a lot warmer than it had been a few minutes ago. He groaned, his head pressing into the wood wishing he'd moved faster with her. Rolling his head from side to side a little, he pressed his irritation into the wall, glancing up every so often, eyes darting to the side to glance at her form at the balcony. She looked almost ghostly in the moonlight, and ran the edge of his tongue along the inside of his lips, still tasting the lingering residue of her mouth. His fingers drummed lightly on the wood, mind working over a tactic to implement in the face of the new situation. How do you invade such a complex fortress? His feet slowly dragged the rest of his body in her direction, fingers snaking along the wall as he moved closer. The word 'perseverance' flashed across his mind as he pulled up behind her.
The view outside was hardly enough to distract him from the situation at hand, his hands wrapping around her waist a little higher than usual, his head resting over her shoulder a little further, pulling her closer to him significantly stronger however. At her words he immediately detached himself from the embrace, bringing a quick hand up to begin unfastening her laces. If there was a knot he'd deal with it, strong hands making light work of the soft cords and with careful, pinching fingers he pulled the two halves of the dress from each other, dropping it down her arms slightly and applying a kiss to the now-revealed shoulder. His hand stroked softly up and down her back, the small bird darting across the moon's image going unnoticed to him as he engulfed himself in paying attention to her. Pulling away from the kiss on her shoulder, he immediately brought it back up and applied a similar one to her neck, moving around to her front slowly.
Standing before her his lips brushed up the neck, moving along the line of her jaw and following around to her chin, his hands taking her by the waist. They rubbed noses slightly before he raised his lips a little more, pressing into her mouth once more with his, eyes drooping at the sensation. He made small attempts to guide her backwards. The window was interesting, the view was beautiful, the air was relaxing, but she was divine and in light of that, everything else was only second best. He pressed lightly, hands guiding her hips and his feed progressing slowly forwards, or backwards in her case, as the window disappeared from their minds and the bed roared closer enticingly. With a little bump he felt his legs make contact with the bed, her body supported by his hands. She was hanging over the bed, ready to fall and only remaining with him only by his touch, and he smiled, allowing her to slowly fall into the covers with him.

"VAL NO!"
Nari bolted upright in the bed, her breathing unsteady and her heart racing frantically. Her hands slipped around the bed till they settled on the man laying next to her in bed and she sighed in relief.
She turned to face him and her fingers trailed lightly through his hair. Laying back down, she brushed them lightly down his cheeks and over his lips.
Nightmares... they weren't something she had often and they were never pleasant. All her anxiety over Val's likely having to travel to meet with the demons was already getting to her. She sighed softly and curled into him, her arms wrapping around him. Brushing her lips across his cheek, she nuzzled into his neck.
Her arms tightened around him as a small sob came from her and a couple tears leaked from her eyes.

His body shifted a little as the borders between dream and reality began to swim and phase, fading a little as each passing second brought him further away from the dream he'd already forgotten and back to the warm, soft touches of the bed, the tender touches of her fingertips pressing against him. He retained the shut eyes of sleep, not wanting to open them for fear of not falling back into a slumber again that night. Not that it was a bad thing to be awake with her, but he slept so much more comfortably with her nearby. He shifted a little against her touch, her fingertips moving against him and her head resting against his neck. His skin tingled a little from the apparent lack of any covers. His hand slipped down to rest on his stomach, finger touching her hand very slightly as he surprisedly made contact with her. Her touch but no sheets. His hand slipped further down, his head tilting towards hers as he made a little contact with the blanket.
The finger running along the edge of the sheet indicated most of the covers were taken up on her side of the bed. He shrugged, resting his hand on her body after tracing the blankets to her, shifting a little closer to her to feed from her warmth. A smile crept over his face, lighting up his face in the pitch black, only a very slight breeze daring to disturb them as it rolled in from the outside, carrying the tranquil air of the ocean with it. The curtains could be heard rustling and he shivered, not from the cold but more from pure stimulation, relaxing into the soft, tender form beside him and attempting to shut himself lazily away from the world once more.

Warm, safe. Nari tucked her arms in close, her hands resting on Val's chest. A small, squeaky yawn escaped her and she nuzzled closer to him.
The sun was just peeking over his shoulder and she gave a tiny groan as the light hit her eyes, burrowing into him.
"Val..."
The sound was muffled by his shoulder and she gave another groan.
"Val... we should get up..."
Sighing, Nari tried to roll away from him and quickly gave up. She didn't want to leave the bed... didn't want to leave the comfort and safety she always found in his arms.

He shook his head, rolling her on top of him and dragging the blankets with her. The sheets covered them both in a false darkness and he sighed once more. He felt her close to him and relexed his posture, feeling part of a delicious sandwich with soft sheets at his back and soft skin on his front. His body shifted a little and dug him further into the sheets, and he finaly spoke since actually waking up. "No, there is no Sun out there. I don't want there to be." He pressed his hands into her back, bringing them to softly pull her into him, and she didn't seem to resist. About as much resolve as she'd had when she said they needed to get up. Not that he minded, as he knew her resolve could be harder than the strongest of blades when she wanted it to be. It wasn't like she'd demonstrated this to him several times before. If she was weak-willed then it means he was doing right by her, and that was all that mattered as he placed his first kiss of that day onto her lips. Maybe she had been expecting it, maybe not, but it was wonderful either way. She had certainly put that warlock magic to good use, and he sighed, straining his ears for a moment as though expecting to hear the typical heavy breathing, slapping skin or whipcracks that indicated a Succubus nearby.
Even if there was one, he wouldn't care.
He turned his mind back to her immediately, breaking the kiss and applying a quicker one into her cheek, bringing his head to rest against hers, his lips whispering softly into her ear. "Besides, you're the light of my world." It might have been a line that would never work in a million years, but he didn't care because he believed it to be true. She kept him safe and warm and healthy and happy. He just wanted to do the same for her, and that was why he wound fight to his dying breath and beyond to defend her. He would crawl into the depths of Northrend as a skeleton, half of his body lost to the wastes and hack out Arthas's cold, black heart with his own brittle fingers if that's what it took to defend her forever. No such thing as eternal protection existed, however, and he knew this, though the image of himself as a skeleton had maybe been worth it. Maybe not, it gave him a shiver and as that shiver passed up him she moved a little closer into him. He pulled the blankets a little further over, not wanted them to be disturbed. Ever.

A tired giggle escaped her as he covered them in the blankets and she pressed her body into his as he pressed against her. Nari sighed softly and nibbled on his lower lip as he pulled away.
Her body trembled as he whispered in her ear and she nuzzled into his neck. His words filled her with so much happiness she could hardly contain herself.
Pressing a kiss to his neck, Nari whispered, "Love of my life... I would be so lost without you."
Leaning up, her hips pressing into his as she looked down at him, she kissed his nose.
"I've loved you for years and would be a life lost without you. You ought to be a Paladin you've filled my life with so much light."
Her lips brushed across his cheek and then across his lips as she continued.
"You say I've provided you a home and a family but Val... love... you gave them to me first. You let me waltz in, change your whole way of life... you let me push the children on you and yet you love me."
She paused and looked deeply into his eyes.
"I love you Val. You are my love, my life and my protector. I would be lost without you by my side."
Nari lowered her head and pressed her lips to his.

He brushed her hair aside lightly, smiling and kissing her back. "Silly woman. Of course I love you, even if you forced all the children of Stormwind on me. I'd find some way of making it work. We'd just not get as many moments like this." He pushed his lips against her a little stronger, his arms wrapping a little tighter around her to bring her closer to him in an effort to have her forever with him. He dared to open an eye, greeted with the flash of light as the curtains billowed a little. Morning. He hated it, as it was the thing that dragged them off in separate directions and made him feel as though he'd never see her again. It was something he truly detested. Yet he was obliged to attend the meetings held by the goblins in order to try and keep her safe. He kept trying to tell himself this over and over again. He would keep her safe easier by having his armies moving around correctly. Not by standing in front of her waving his sword around.
He smiled and drew his eyes back to her, the light causing her face to appear angelic. He exhaled, committing the memory of her then to memory, intent on never forgetting that moment. His mind began to go through the list of things for him to day that day half-heartedly. All meetings really. Not fun at all, but at least he had this to return to each day. He would be happy, he knew. There was no reason for him to feel anything bad as long as she was here, and he wanted that to stay forever. Not just for him, but for her too. She seemed to be happy with him, in his home, with the children, and he didn't have the heart to tell her otherwise. He'd make sure she never wanted for anything, he had decided long ago. Buy her any dress she liked, get her any jewelry that caught her eye. He could easily afford at least that much. Beer had been his main expenditure, and it wasn't particularly expensive when Dwarves are nearby. He kissed her once more on the lips, glad to have her with him now.

They had to get up... but she could feel in his body the same resistance to acknowledging the real world that she felt.
"If I tried hard enough I could maybe make the day take longer?"
A tiny giggle slipped from her as she nuzzled into his shoulder, sliding to his side and lazily running her hand up and down his chest.
"Val... I... I could try to stop in today and help you... If you think... it would help..."
The thought of becoming involved in any sort of politics again... of taking on and acknowledging his work again made her ill and she gave a tiny groan as she rolled away from him a little, wrapping her arms around herself. She so wanted to just stay here, hidden beneath the sheets and pretend the world didn't exist. All her resolve from the previous night was wavering here in the light of day. The filtered sunshine had highlighted all the details of his face, and the reality that his position, his job, may take that away from her was beyond distressing.

He sighed, nodding at her offer for help. "It would help me to say the least, though I get the feeling this whole week is just a waste as the Goblins are not going to offer us anything we can meet. I'll try as much as I can, but I'll be sending messengers to Stormwind as soon as I finish the meeting again today." He brushed his hand against her face, holding her still to gaze upon her perfect features, obvious even in the partial light. His hands strokes through her hair, brushing it back away from her face and silently scolding it for trying to inflict upon his view of her. He wanted to take in all of her with her eyes and only see her, and nothing else. After all, nothing else mattered as long as he had her, and all he wanted to do was to protect what little he had. He pressed a kiss against her cheek before unwillingly moving up a little as though about to get ready for the impending doom of Palus's fist against their door. Hopefully he'd played another game with the children in the pub and was running late. Maybe they'd tried to invent a game based off the paladin's shiny head, Val could only imagine.

Nari rolled back towards him as his hands stroked her face and slipped a hand down his back as he moved out of the bed. A sigh slipped from her and she rolled out herself, feet landing softly on the floor. "I'm surprised the damned Paladin hasn't been by yet this morning to speak with us." She slipped behind the dressing screen and rummaged around in her trunk again. She was definitely going to be helping Val today... he'd said he could use the help and with any luck they'd be wrapping up this mess and returning home within the day. Her eyes fell on a spring colored dress and she pulled it out, slipping into it as she listened to Val pull on his boots. Sliding out from behind the screen, her hands holding the dress together she gave him a gentle smile. "Love... I know I ask you every morning but could you give me some help here?" The dress was fairly low cut, something only Val and Palus would be able to see and something that Val only would later get to appreciate.

He moved in behind her, pulling at the laces a little sharply with a smile and bringing her backwards a little against him, slipping his hands beneath the fabric to rest around her stomach. He held her for a few seconds, resting his head against hers and sighing quietly against her. Finally his hands pulled back out from the dress and began lacing her dress up, taking time with each one to spend more time with each other. His hands were getting used to this, and he was enjoying it, surprisingly. Not much, but it was still something good to do in the early hours, though he enjoyed it much more when he was taking the laces off. He turned her slowly in his arms, smiling at her and not kissing her this time, just wanting to look at her and cherish her. He clung tightly to her, watching the door as though expecting it to knock at any time. Nothing, and he finally sighed, relieved and held his lips close to hers. "Nari, I..."
Three pounds. That meant whoever it was would be getting three punches around the face when they got back to Stormwind. He could hear the raspy breathing of a middle-aged man, and could almost smell the alcohol still pungent on the clothing. "Knock knock, anyone home?" Val shut his eyes almost angrily, taking a soothing breath and releasing his grip from Nari, almost wanting to become longer so he could keep touching her no matter where he went. He pulled open the door, slamming it a little against the wall behind it to find the paladin there, a little shaky on his feet, and a female friend beside him. She was in fine clothing, make up and was rather lithe and yet curvy. He eyed her a little before speaking to the paladin. "Getting comfortable with the locals? I thought that sort of thing was against your paladin vows." The woman stepped forward indignantly, almost aggressively. "I am one of the advisors to the Royal Family of Wrynn, Grand Marshal." Val paused for a moment, thinking. "The Grand Marshal is just inside, I'll get him."
Slamming the door shut he bustled immediately over to the mirror, checking his appearance and skin to ensure there was no reason she could present to the court to have him removed from his standing or beheaded. He knew the royal types. Content with his visage he passed Nari once more, pressing a quick kiss against her cheek as he made his way to the door, opening it once more to a bewildered woman about to knock again. "Grand Marshal, I really must warn you." "I do apoligise for my brother's rudeness. I killed him and threw him off the balcony. Can I help you, Advisor?" He offered her a false, broad smile, feeling his beard shift a little at the extreme contortion he was forcing at the sight of such a woman. "I just thought I'd mention the ball in Stormwind will be occurring a week or so after you return." Val nearly slammed the door once more, his fingers tensing on the edge as he glanced back over his shoulder, drawing his talk to a whisper, despite the fact a certain someone had probably already heard. "I'm afraid I can't make it that night. I'll be quilting." The advisor gave him a scowl before stalking off, not even dignifying his response with an answer.

"Oh!"
Nari giggled as she bumped back into Val, shivering and resting her head back against his shoulder. A small sigh slipped from her lips and her eyes closed in delight as his fingers slipped along her skin. It was a feeling she felt she could never tire of. Her dress slowly tightened around her and she could feel her spine straighten as each segment was tightened by his sometimes lingering fingers. It was all the reason in the world Narianne needed to keep buying completely impractical dresses.
When he moved to turn her in his arms, Nari gave him a soft smile and started to reach up on her tiptoes to kiss him when the door was pounded on. Groaning in frustration, both from not getting to hear what he wanted to say and losing the precious few moments left of their morning together, she dropped her head onto his shoulder before giving him a slight nudge towards the door.
"Palus dear..."
As Val spoke to the Paladin, Nari busied herself with the final touches of her dressing, muttering under her breath as she heard Val comment,
"Meh... totally like the paladin to find a goblin woman to see to his needs..."
The door slamming shut caused her to give a tiny shriek and jump with a turn towards him. She stood still in her spot and watched him move almost frantically to the mirror... odd... then he dropped a kiss on her cheek before opening hte door again and closing it on her as she moved to follow him.
A pouty frown crossed Nari's face as she crept up to the door and pressed her ear against it.
Advisor?... She pressed her ear closer and tried to catch more. Stormwind.... week...ball...
Narianne was a smart girl... she knew what those three words signified and a tiny thrill of excitement shivered down her spine... A ball... Already she was deciding colors and dress styles to try out when they returned.
She moved away from the door and sat on the bed, trying to look uninterested as she waited for him to return to get his boots. All good things came to those who waited...

Watching the Advisor stalk off, he couldn't help but feel the atmosphere of the room lighten, and warmth return to the air. She certainly did have a way of putting the feeling of death into men's souls. Palus seemed to give her half a glance, nodding at Val as though to say he'd meet him later, and made his way after the Advisor with heavy, laden footsteps. Apparently he was being given a little but of reprieve before having to immediately attend the meeting with the Goblins. Turning back into the room and letting the door close slowly, the creaking of the hinges only amplified the feeling of silence and discomfort awaiting him as he saw Nari perched on the end of the bed, a wicked expression present on her face. No emotion. That was a bad thing. He moved cautiously towards her, edging his body a little sideways as though expecting something. She knew. He knew she knew. Did she know he knew she knew? He didn't know.
Talk about putting a feeling of death into men's souls.
"Listen, before you get all excited, I really don't do balls. They... they're for aristocracy, not the soldiers like me." He paused, looking at her and recalling the type of personality she had when he had met her several... weeks? Months? However long it had been. When she had been headstrong and feisty and adamant in impressing her own opinions and ideals. "And just so you know, I can't dance, so threats won't be particularly effective." It was true, he couldn't dance at all. He could do sword fighting and he knew the steps to counter a variety of styles, but how many women were going to come at him with a sword and force him around a dancefloor in that way? Not many he could wager, though looking at her he doubted he'd put it past her to learn some sword techniques just to get him to dance around. Or if she was feeling back to normal she'd probably try and hit him with lightning or something similarly sinister. Just like her, he thought as he cuddled her close.

She could see it on his face... terror... plain as day. The evil little Witch that resided inside Narianne cackled in glee. No matter how he tried to spin keeping her away from the ball... they WOULD be going.
Quickly she applied a sympathetic look to her face and stood, moving swiftly towards him. Her hands slipped up around his neck and she stretched up to place a light kiss on his lips.
"Of course dear. I wouldn't expect you to dance..."
She slipped from his arms and began making a quick round of the room, picking up loose articles and setting them over by their travel cases.
"You, of course have to go... and I would be a horrible woman if I didn't attend with you"
She turned and gave him a deceptively sweet smile.
"After all Val... no better way to impress aristocracy than with a lovely woman hanging off your arm... isn't that right?"
She turned away and busied herself tucking something into a bag and allowed the grin she'd been holding back to creep across her face. Taking a breath, she continued slowly as though in contemplation,
"And of course I'll have to go and make the rounds on the dance floor impressing people since you can't dance. It'll be such a disappointment to have other men with their arms around me... holding me close..."
She schooled her face and turned to him a look of slight concern.
"I hope none of them decide to grab my ass.."

He span round, arm wanting to lash out. Not at her, but at the invisible, unreal aristocratic figure hanging behind her with his greedy moneygrabbing hands flexing. He snarled, not wanting to hit her by accident, and lowered his temper, subsiding the rush of aggressive emotions. Was she taunting him? Provoking him with some sort of elaborate dare? Either he would take her and suffer through the night, bear the dances and return with her, or refuse and have her cavorting off with the other men, their eyes upon her face, their hands upon her hands, their lips caressing her skin... it was more than he could stand. He retreated to the balcony, staring at the new sunrise. Last time he had been there with the sun rising things had appeared much simpler now. Choices. It was what his life was made up of now. Many he didn't want to have to make, but it seemed the decision was already laid out before him. War or peace. Ball or not. Love or duty.
"I don't need to impress aristocracy. In fact I prefer to distance myself. When aristocracy gets onto the battlefield..." he paused, his memory rewinding to the lords and noblemen who mistreated and abused the men under their command with a sigh, the thoughts of the countless dead under incompetent command aggravating him. "When aristocracy gets onto the battlefield men die." He finished, resting a forearm against the frame of the window, staring off to sea as he talked, sensing her not far behind him. "And don't try and provoke my jealousy." It sounded much harsher than he meant it, and he turned his head slightly upon realising this, straining to apoligise but unable to. His gaze returned forward, head dropping a little. He didn't need elaborate parties, fine suits, nobles, silverware or any of the useless things that adorned the halls of Stormwind's banquet tables. He didn't want it either.
